Carol de Fries

Carol de Fries is an expert at building strategic partnerships for economic and civic growth, with 25 years of experience in business development, marketing, government relations, and economic and workforce development. She is the Community College of Philadelphia’s Vice President of Workforce and Economic Innovation. In this new cabinet level role, she is responsible for expanding the form and the function of the College’s workforce development, continuing education, job readiness, job training and job creation programs by establishing partnerships with local businesses and the institution. de Fries previously served in senior roles with Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC); the Office of Government and Community Affairs for the University of Pennsylvania (Penn); and the Commerce Department for the City of Philadelphia. Before moving to Philadelphia, she was a federal Procurement Administrator for a DC-based international consulting firm helping negotiate the purchase and shipment of goods for USAID projects to third-world and developing countries. de Fries holds a Masters in Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government and a BA from Georgetown University. She is one of the board founders of Campus Philly, currently Co-Chair of Campus Philly’s Corporate Advisory Council. A member of the Philadelphia Business Journal “Forty under Forty,” she also serves on the board of CREW Philadelphia and has received two awards from the organization. She serves Vice President of her neighborhood community development corporation (CDC), Newbold CDC. She previously served on the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce’s Arts & Business Council Advisory Board, Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, and the Fund for Philadelphia.
